The technology helps the administrator harness the fast and voluminous flow of information, enabling them to make faster decisions for improved patient services and more efficient functioning. However, many facilities in Thailand still lack the technology, funding and expertise for such systems, relying on manual data collection and analysis instead. OBJECTIVE The purpose of this research was to develop a hospital pharmacy data management system at Sapasitthiprasong Hospital. Special emphasis was placed on designing a user-friendly and convenient access to the database, in order to facilitate the efficiency of recording, storing and reporting hospital pharmacy operations. MATERIAL AND METHODS This research employed both qualitative and quantitative research methods. The former included analyzing various tasks in the pharmacy department, including problems and obstacles in operations, and the demand for system and information to hospital pharmacy departpment. The process of HPDMS development and evaluation consisted of two phases; Part 1 Software development which consisted of 3 phases; construction, field testing, and revision of the program and Part 2 evaluation of users’ satisfaction by the administrative pharmacists. Each pharmacist completed a questionnaire about program satisfaction. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistical analysis. RESULTS Part 1 Software development; In this research, pharmacy administrators identified the following three key areas of concern; (1) problems and obstacles in their operations, (2) a need for systems and information on each project, (3) a need for computer systems in HPDMS operations. This system is developed from the procedures and data collected from the pharmacy department of Sapprasitprasong hospital which divided into 2 subsystems= Pharmacy Outpatient department (OPD) and Pharmacy Inpatient department (IPD). After extensive assessment, this tested HPDMS has been proven to be an efficient software with many user-friendly features, including storage and, recording of new records, editing records, deleting records, backing up databases, searching for required databases, reporting system and, database statistics, hard copy printing, as well as a helping system, manuals for administrators and general users, These feature make the software easy and convenient, as indicated by the questionnaire feedback. The Program designation and the summary of statistical reports yielded positive results. Moreover, the manual was found to be useful and easy to understand, the program was actually used and met the organization’s requirements. CONCLUSION Our results show that this program can be useful tool for hospital pharmacy workers to quickly and easily access relevant information, enabling them to make suitable, efficient and timely decisions. The program could also be used as a solid base for software development.
